A Look Back – Our Milestones

 

For 80 years, the name Theysohn has stood for innovation, quality, and technical precision in mechanical and plant engineering. What began in 1945 with visionary entrepreneurial spirit has evolved into an internationally successful company – deeply rooted and clearly focused on the future.

Theysohn’s history is marked by continuous development, technological pioneering, and strong partnerships with customers worldwide. Over the course of eight decades, we have not only steadily expanded our product portfolio but also set new standards in extrusion technology.

From groundbreaking advances in twin-screw extrusion to setting new benchmarks in efficiency and sustainability, and expanding our international presence – every chapter of our company’s history tells a story of courage, expertise, and the pursuit of perfection.

Friedrich Theysohn (founder) applied for a business license for a workshop to create punching tools in Langenhagen. The license was granted in 1946.

1946

Friedrich Theysohn (founder) receives the operating license for a workshop to produce punching tools in Langenhagen.

1948

1948

The Theysohn team at that time consisted of 12 employees.

1950

1950

Specialization towards injection mold tools due to increasing demand for plastic parts. Production of punching tools is discontinued

1953

Test laboratory/line for injection molding tools is established. The adjacent bunker is used as storage until the 1970s.

1954

Expansion with the first mold-making hall in Langenhagen.

Plastic injection molded parts are also produced for companies like Voigtländer, Zett-Gerätewerk, and others.

Purchase of property in Langenhagen and expansion with a new hall.

Relocation of tool manufacturing to the new site in Langenhagen.

First contact with Gebrüder Anger, Austria. Mold making begins with the production of slot dies for plastic sheet manufacturing, marking the start of cylinder production for extruders.

Production of disposable cutlery and efficient packaging is automated.

1969

Purchase of land for a new machinery manufacturing plant in Salzgitter.

1970

Inauguration of the new plant in Salzgitter. Various mechanical parts are manufactured for the local industry.

1978

Production of bimetallic cylinders starts in Salzgitter. All injection molding machine manufacturers are supplied with high-wear-resistant bimetallic cylinders.

Mold making in Langenhagen now produces large tools for the automotive industry. The plastic injection plant in Langenhagen receives major orders from the photography sector.

Foundation of Theysohn GmbH as a holding company.

1982

1982

Decision to centralize Theysohn in Salzgitter. The plastic injection plant in Langenhagen is moved to Salzgitter. Reinhard Theysohn (son-in-law of the founder) takes over management from Friedrich Theysohn.

Further centralization of Theysohn in Salzgitter and management transition to Reinhard Theysohn.

Foundation of Paracon, a manufacturer of parallel and conical twin-screw extruders in Austria, later becoming Theysohn Extrusionstechnik Austria and founding Topf Consulting Austria.

American-Maplan TS100 Counter-rotating extruder

1987

Theysohn Holding acquires 100% of American Maplan Corporation (AMC), a manufacturer of counter-rotating twin-screw extruders, and specializes the Salzgitter plant for manufacturing these machines.

Development and integration of bimetallic cylinder production for twin-screw extruders follows.

Topf Kunststofftechnik becomes part of the Theysohn family and relocates to Kirchdorf, Austria.

Sale of the Theysohn Group to Vereinigte Großalmeroder Tonwerke (VGT Industrie AG). As a result, the PVC window manufacturer Plus Plan GmbH (Germany and UK) joins the Theysohn Group.

Sale of American Maplan Corporation in the USA, including the bimetallic technology.

Topf Kunststofftechnik becomes a 100% subsidiary of Theysohn. New company Vinyl Extrusion Technologies is founded in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

Theysohn Group exits injection molding activities in Salzgitter and Langenhagen as well as INOEX in Bad Oeynhausen.

Mr. Rudolf Zahradnik, Mr. Siegfried Topf, and Mr. Sven Wolf take over the Austrian companies of the Theysohn Group through an asset deal: Theysohn Extrusionstechnik in Korneuburg, Topf Kunststofftechnik in Kirchdorf, and Extruder Components Salzgitter GmbH (for screws and cylinders). Other divisions sold to external companies retain the Theysohn name.

Shareholders Rudolf Zahradnik and Siegfried Topf retire and sell the company to High Tech Industries AG in St. Marien, Austria. The Theysohn Group is henceforth operated under the name High Tech Extrusion GmbH. Topf Kunststofftechnik is closed and Technoplast is taken over.

Distribution agreement in the USA taken over by Extrusion Concepts Corporation led by Dr. Peter Heilmayr and Larry Kuykendall.

Theysohn Group sold by HTI AG to RLB Steiermark, Austria. Renamed back to Theysohn Extrusionstechnik GmbH.

Joint venture in China sold to Conch. Russian subsidiary closed and sales activities taken over by Georg Gimeyn.

MBO - MUT Holding (Michael Döring, Uwe Langanke, and Torsten Grosser) become new owners of the Theysohn Extrusionstechnik Group.

Assembly activities for counter-rotating twin-screw extruders are consolidated from Korneuburg, Austria to Germany.

Departments for technology, construction, project planning, R&D, and sales are moved to Stockerau, Austria.

A dedicated facility is built in Pune, India, to manufacture products for the Indian market and strengthen local service.

Strategic realignment of the Theysohn Group; Theysohn Extrusionstechnik GmbH Austria becomes a branch of Theysohn Extrusionstechnik GmbH Germany.
